Q&A WR CRAPHONSO THORPE
|
Q: Can you describe your style of play?
THORPE: “I hope to bring another dimension of my game and add that to the wrinkles that they already have. I’m a fast, elusive receiver that can stretch the field, and hopefully I can fit into the offense.” Interview |

Q&A P DUSTIN COLQUITT
|
Q: Can you put it into perspective for a punter to be drafted in the third round?
COLQUITT: “I cannot say how much. We prayed lot about this. The special teams coach, (Frank) Gansz came down here and it was just a perfect fit. My fiancé and I prayed about it a lot. It is overwhelming right now. I am trying to catch my breath and realize what a huge opportunity I have in front of me right now.” Interview |

CHIEFS SELECT WR CRAPHONSO THORPE IN 4th ROUND
|
WIDE RECEIVER FLORIDA STATE 6-0 187 TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA (116th overall)
One of the fastest players in the nation, Thorpe made a successful return to action in 2004, nine months after he suffered a shattered right leg in which both of his major bones were broken on an overtime play vs. North Carolina State. Thorpe was not only a vital part of the Seminoles’ football team, but also played an important role on FSU’s track-and-field teams. Full Story Here |

15 116 Kansas City Craphonso Thorpe WR Florida State
Gil Brandt's Analysis Thorpe broke his leg in two places in the last game of 2003. That spring, he won the outdoor 100-200 meter spring championship in track. This is a very good choice -- one of only two true freshmen to play at Florida State. |

Defensive overhaul continues with first-round pick
|
Of all the realistic expectations the Chiefs had for this year's draft, none of them included Texas linebacker Derrick Johnson.
Johnson, generally considered the best pure linebacker in the draft, was on the Chiefs' wish list because he filled a void at their main position of need. They went as far as to bring Johnson to Arrowhead Stadium two weeks ago so they could get to know him better, just in case. Full Story Here |

Johnson 'blessed' to play for Chiefs
|
Linebacker Derrick Johnson, headed for Kansas City, said, "What I do best is make plays. I'm the type of player that's going to make the tackle and give you what you need to put you in the game, help you win the game. But I'm a player who's still learning." WACO - After the Cowboys and the Houston Texans passed up the opportunity to draft Texas linebacker Derrick Johnson in the first round of the NFL Draft, there likely were some upset Texas Exes all around the state.
Johnson went to the Kansas City Chiefs with the 15th overall pick after the Cowboys passed on him at No. 11 in favor of Demarcus Ware of Troy and the Texans, who had the No. 13 pick, swapped first-round spots with New Orleans. Full Story Here |

VERMEIL: SHIELDS TO PLAY IN '05
|
By ADAM TEICHER The Kansas City Star
Will Shields marched into Dick Vermeil's office last week and, in his typical style, made a simple statement to the Chiefs' head coach.
Shields, a 10-time Pro Bowl guard, told Vermeil he would play for the Chiefs again this season.
“It was very low-key,” Vermeil said. “It was not a big verbal blast.”
Shields was considering retirement and had gone as far as to stay away from the Chiefs' offseason conditioning program as he made his decision.
The Chiefs were never seriously concerned that Shields would retire, but out of respect for his 12 NFL seasons, they allowed him as much time as he wanted.
When contacted Saturday, Shields would only confirm he met with Vermeil.
“We had a discussion,” Shields said, “but what we talked about was between me and the coach.” SOURCE... |
