Chiefs Coach, Players Mum On Johnson

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Todd Haley did not want to comment on the situation with Larry Johnson's suspension and appeal.
Chiefs head coach Todd Haley
"With all due respect, I am not going to talk about the subject," said Haley repeatedly while being asked the same question over and over.Johnson, running back for the team, created controversy this week for uttering two gay slurs in a 24-hour period. The first slur occurred on his Twitter account on Sunday night – just hours after he had posted comments questioning Haley's ability to coach. The second time came on Monday in the Chiefs locker room, in a whispered comment after telling reporters he would not speak with them.Johnson is suspended until Nov. 9. The Chiefs are scheduled to play the Jacksonville Jagaurs on Nov. 8.Most of the Chiefs players also refused to answer questions. Only Mike Vrabel, who is a union representative for the players, said that a player is responsible for his own actions.

PFT: Larry Johnson will seek expedited appeal of his suspension

The Chiefs have imposed a two-week suspension on running back Larry Johnson.

And Johnson will be challenging the suspension immediately.

"We will be filing an appeal tomorrow," agent Peter Schaffer told us by phone tonight.  "It is our belief that the action did not warrant the discipline unilaterally imposed by the Chiefs.  We'll be asking for an expeditied hearing, and hopefully we can work out a positive, mutual resolution with the Chiefs.  If not, we'll defer to the arbitrator's decision.  Larry's desire is to get back to his teammates as soon as he can."

JC vs. LJ

http://top-fantasy-football.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/jamaal-charles.jpg

Jamaal Charles seems like he would be a great starter for the chiefs offense. His average rush per attempt is 5 yards, as Johnsons is 2.7 yards. What does everyone think? I want to see what people think on what HB would be better, and what will happen to Johnson after his suspension is up after nov.9. Thank you

Chiefs Mourn the Death of Longtime Assistant Coach Darvin Wallis

The Kansas City Chiefs organization is mourning the passing of longtime Chiefs assistant coach Darvin Wallis. Wallis, 60, spent 26 seasons in the NFL coaching ranks with Kansas City and Cleveland. He spent 19 seasons with the Chiefs as a defensive assistant/quality control coach before his retirement in January of 2008. He is survived by his wife Vicky and three sons: Tyson, Darvin, Jr. and Austin.

“On behalf of my family and the entire Chiefs organization, we want to extend our deepest sympathies to Vicky and the Wallis family during this difficult time,” Hunt said. “Darvin worked tirelessly behind the scenes for the Chiefs for nearly 20 years. He was a beloved figure at Arrowhead, and we will always remember and appreciate his lasting contributions to our team.”

Wallis’ 19-year tenure with Kansas City ranked as the second-longest stint by an assistant coach in franchise history, trailing only Tom Pratt (21 years). Wallis also joined Pratt by holding the distinction of becoming the only other assistant coach in club history to serve under four different head coaches. Wallis worked under Marty Schottenheimer, Gunther Cunningham, Dick Vermeil and Herm Edwards. He began his NFL career with the Cleveland Browns under head coach Sam Rutigliano in ‘82. Schottenheimer and Rutigliano joined Hunt in expressing their condolences on Wallis’ passing.

“He was at the forefront of the coaching profession’s analysis of trends through video analysis,” Schottenheimer said. “In the role in which he was cast, I’ve never been with one better – the best I was ever involved with. The thoughts and prayers of Pat and I are with the Wallis family in its time of sorrow.” “Darvin was truly at the cutting edge when it came to introducing computer technology into the NFL,” Rutigliano said. “In terms of applying research and development to the strategy of the game, he was at the forefront of that movement. He was a marvelously talented individual. All of us who knew him so well will miss him deeply.”

A 36-year coaching veteran, Wallis was a member of 14 playoffs teams, including nine with the Chiefs. He was one of only six assistant coaches in Kansas City history to serve more than one full decade with the club. In addition, he was one of 19 coaches in NFL history to work for a team in all 10 years of a 100-win decade as Kansas City produced a 102-58 record from ‘90-99.more

Star: Audio | Hear Larry Johnson's controversial comment

The Kansas City Star is releasing audio this afternoon of a controversial comment made Monday by Chiefs running back Larry Johnson. Readers should listen carefully and turn up the volume since the comment is whispered quickly under Johnson’s breath in a busy locker room.

The controversy began when, approached by media in the Chiefs’ locker room on Monday, Johnson initially said, “I’m not talking till Thursday,” his usual day to speak with reporters.

However, after someone remarked that the running back has often talked on Mondays as well, Johnson turned his head slightly and said, “Get your faggot ass out of here.”

Week 8 NFL Rumors: Chiefs' Jamaal Charles and Larry Johnson

The Kansas City Chiefs might be benching running back Larry Johnson in favor of Jamaal Charles according to some week 8 NFL rumors.

Our week 8 NFL rumors show that Larry Johnson has been banned from Kansas City Chiefs team activities while Jamaal Charles appears ready to take over for him.

Johnson angered the Kansas City Chiefs by making fun of his coach and using gay slurs in recent Twitter updates and that has caused his NFL team to ban him from team activities prior to the week 8 bye.  Johnson began the outburst by, more or less, saying that his dad was a real football coach who played NFL football while current Chiefs coach Todd Haley was a golfer who had not played.

Williamson: Could Johnson's time in KC be coming to an end?

I’m not predicting this will happen and I’m not saying it should happen, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Larry Johnson gets released by the Chiefs during the season.

The Chiefs are starting their bye week. Usually, when teams want to make a change the bye week is a convenient time to do it.

Johnson’s problems are starting to pile up in a hurry again. After behaving very well so far this season and being a supporter of the new regime in Kansas City, Johnson has hit a rough spot in the past 24 hours. He wrote some Twitter posts questioning the credentials of Kansas City coach Todd Haley, while supporting the career of his father. He also reportedly made some homophobic comments.
